The number of students in school is expected to increase over the next coming decade. With this increase in student population, the demand for teachers is needed throughout all levels of educations. For most teaching positions job growth is projected at around 8% over the next few years. For Postsecondary education that growth is projected around 15 percent.
Teachers educate and teach students important skills that prepares them for life post-education. Postsecondary teachers who typically work at a 4-year college must typically have a doctoral degree in their field. Some institutions may require teachers to have other work experience to be hired.

All states require that teachers be licensed or certified in the specific grade level that they will teach. Private school teachers do not typically need a license. Requirements to be eligible for a license vary from state to state, but general requirements include a bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade point average, completion of a teacher preparation program and supervised experience in teaching, passing a background check, and passing a general teaching certificate test.
Teachers are also required to complete annual professional development classes to keep their license or certification.
